We are pleased to announce the 2023 and 2024 edition of the Sweetpotato Scientific Paper Competition, recognizing outstanding contributions to sweetpotato research.

This annual award is made possible through a generous endowment from Dr. Jan Low, and offers a USD $500 prize to the lead author of the winning publication. The award is intended to be shared among the co-authors in recognition of collaborative scientific effort.

  • Deadline for submission: August 30, 2025
  • Winner announcement: November 2025
  • During the International Symposium on Tropical Root and Tuber Crops (ISTRC), taking place 17–21 November in India.

If you have questions, please contact Lilia Salinas at l.salinas@cgiar.org.

  • The papers must have been published in 2023 and 2024.
  • Authors may include both CIP and non-CIP scientists. Researchers from other institutions conducting studies aimed at improving sweetpotato for the benefit of low- and middle-income countries are strongly encouraged to participate.
  • Papers for which Dr. Jan W. Low is the lead author are ineligible; however, papers where she is a co-author may be considered.

To be considered for the award, please submit the following:

    • The official citation of the article.
    • The full name, age, sex, job title, institution, mailing address, email address, and contact phone number of each co-author.
    • If the prize is not to be divided equally, please specify in the letter the percentage allocation for each author, based on their contribution.
