Rwanda Potato Variety Description Guide Webinar

Join us for the official launch of Rwanda’s first National Potato Variety Description Guide—a milestone moment for the country’s agriculture sector. Developed in collaboration between the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), the Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (RICA), and the International Potato Center (CIP), this new catalogue provides detailed profiles of all 19 officially released potato varieties grown in Rwanda.

Why This Matters:

Potato plays a vital role in Rwanda’s food security, nutrition, and farmer livelihoods. Yet, until now, there has been no centralized resource to guide seed producers, farmers, traders, and regulators in making informed varietal choices. The catalogue fills this gap—offering valuable information on agroecological zones, disease resistance, market suitability, and yield potential for each variety.

This tool will help improve productivity, align seed supply with demand, and support the implementation of Rwanda’s Strategic Plan for Agricultural Transformation (PSTA5).
