Industries Served
The aviation industry requires the very best from its materials. Alloys for aerospace applications are required to maintain stability at high temperatures, high creep strength, good fatigue behavior, slow crack propagation, toughness, resistance to high-temperature oxidation, and corrosion resistance. Stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium products are used in aerospace applications because they meet these criteria over a wide temperature range.
Sandmeyer Steel Company’s stainless steels, nickel alloys, and titanium products are utilized in piston engine parts, exhaust components, fuel tanks, and structural parts and components.
For applications where corrosion resistance is of primary importance, 304L/304 is the alloy of choice for mildly corrosive service (cabin components, fuel tanks). 316L/316 is used where corrosion levels are more severe.
For parts or components requiring extensive machining and moderate corrosion resistance, alloy 303 can be utilized.
309S/309H/309, 310S/310H/310, and 321H/321 are used extensively in aircraft engine exhaust systems.
17-4PH combines high strength, hardness, and corrosion resistance and finds widespread use in aerospace structural parts and components.
Nickel alloy 200/201 is utilized for rocket motor casings.
